In April, will have Show and Tell.  We will have another Stash Bust at our October meeting.  More details will follow later.

The Knoxville Opera’s Rossini Festival is right around the corner on April 27 and the Guild has once again been asked to demonstrate.  As of April 3 it sounds like all but one slot has been filled.  If you’re a member and interested in volunteering to spin from 6-8 that evening or would like more information please contact Linda Frank (e-mail) as soon as possible.

The Jefferson County Fair (Aug. 15-24) would like us to set up a booth, indoors with A/C – Deb to try to organize – contact Deb if interested.

Echoview Fiber Mill would be willing to open on a Saturday so we can tour (Weaverville just north of Asheville) – probably will be after April to plan a trip.

MEMBER AND OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS

From Sue Mason:

The Museum of Appalachia needs spinning demonstrators for their Annual Sheep Shearing Day, April 26. Also, they need spinners for the 34th Annual Tennessee Fall Homecoming, Oct. 10-13. All participants are required to dress in keeping with the Appalachian theme, which can include a plaid shirt and overalls – nothing fancy! Please contact Elaine Myers at the Museum as soon as possible to find out more!

From Deborah Adams:

It is not too late to sign up for a class at the Smoky Mountain Fiber Arts Festival — Thursday, April 18th: two classes offered while that is move in day for the vendors; Friday, April 19th: Marketplace opens and a full schedule of classes begins and on Saturday the 20th more shopping, classes and marketplace. Be sure and check out the web site for the vendors and class registration. We will have several members participating in demonstrations at the Townsend Visitors Center one week prior to the Festival.

From Jo Anne Neary:

I have been asked to assist in setting up the topic of the June meeting. We are going to have a “Wheel Sampling” which will consist of a variety of wheels set up to try. I need volunteers to bring a wheel with an empty bobbin that they do not mind other people spinning on. I also need volunteers to speak on wheel related topics, ie wheel maintenance, the different parts of the wheel and how they go their name, etc.

The wheels will be set up in the back of the room and I will be there to help everyone try them. This will be a great opportunity for new spinners to come try a variety of wheels or if you’ve had your eye on a new/another wheel, maybe the one you are dreaming of will be there to try  Please send me an email at or come see me at the next meeting. 

Also from Jo Anne: I need volunteers to come early to the meetings to help set up and stay until the end to help put everything away. Some of our members have graciously been helping me with these tasks but it would be helpful to have people scheduled for the months ahead. We currently have no volunteers. Please let me know if you are available to help out, it would be greatly appreciated. Contact Jo-Ann (e-mail).

New Spinning Group Meeting in Townsend:

The Chocolate Bar in Townsend has a new Spinners Group which meets every Thursday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. If you are in the Townsend area, you are invited to attend.
